Today was that dreaded day of the year when the christmas groceries have to be bought. We purposefully did not leave it untill the very last minute to do it, as on wednesday I am sure it is a struggle for live to even get into the supermarket and I have not mentioned the car parking drama that preceeds the getting into the store-thing…
Cucumber
I am as guilty as the next person I guess but I can’t help but wonder what is possessing all these people to stock up as if we’re about to get a new iceage tomorrow…
We have to feed a total of 10 people, which means quite a lot of groceries needed to be bought, but thankfully the majority can be bought in advance with a few exceptions to the rule that we will purchase either tomorrow or wednesday. I will start baking cake and cupcakes tomorrow to get a bit ahead of the game. Decorating the cake will have to wait untill the last minute but at least the baking will be done.
Anyway, we had a cart full of stuff and Tom was getting a little bit grumpy about the amount of money we had to spend. To be honest if you divide the amount across the 10 people then it is not so bad and equals a fairly normal meal, but it’s always such an expensive time of the year!!
And aren’t we all supposed to have an economic crisis? Looking at the amounts paid in the supermarket you could not tell for sure!
The little dish beside here was a bit disappointing; it’s fairly simple; cucumber with a hole in the middle, a gurkin and a nice ham. You could add some mustard to it, but the cucumber is too overpowering. So you either have to slice the cucumber thinner, but that way it won’t hold the gurkin and ham or spice it up with a bit of mustard. It’s nice but nothing thrilling really. Good for an average birthday party maybe. Not so much for christmas buffet…:)
The schedule for christmas cooking has been made, starting tomorrow, so I’ll try and post some results of the baking if they’re any good! (they better be good!!)
