 You know how you can hear about certain flavor combinations where you first go; “what”?? The combination of strawberries and balsamico is one of them. I remember reading the balsamic and strawberry last year too! Today i was holding the bottle of balsamic & I was thinking that it is time I gather courage and try it out & here you are! Yes, strawberries and balsamic glaze is unexpectedly delicious! We used to make our own balsamic reduction, but it took so long… When we discovered the ready-made version, we started putting it on everything! [Reply]

When I first heard of the combo I thought it odd too. I still haven’t tried it. I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’m not that fond of balsamic vinegar – because I’m Italian everyone assumes I must love it. It wasn’t a flavor I was brought up on and haven’t yet acquired a taste for it. But your salad looks so fresh and inviting… as so does your new look! I love it! [Reply]

I would dare to try this recipe…. is balsamic glaze like a glaze version of balsamic vinegar? Simone, another post with fabulous shot! I think Balsamic glaze is just a very concentrated form of balsamic vinegar as it is much thicker and kind of like a syrup. Maybe it is also slightly less sour. I actually don’t really know… [Reply]

Yum, I would never have thought of combining strawberries and tomatoes but I love the sound of this. It’s the second recipe of this nature I’ve read today that’s surprised me (the other being tomatoes and watermelon). I’ll try them both. Nice site. The cover of the Dutch cookbook made me laugh! I’m intrigued by the book, though: even though I’m from Belgium, I know very little about Dutch cuisine. Mostly, all that comes to my mind is cheese and maatjes (which I’ve never even tried, because my father doesn’t like them). And the recipes you post here seem to be more international than typically Dutch, so I’m still pretty clueless… That picture of Gizmo and the pasta is priceless! I have to agree with her, though: that crispy pancette is hard to resist! [Reply]

I’m not much on the pasta,but the family,I cook for them,and if your what you eat is what you are,then I got some large pasta items here.Now,the Dutch book is my thoughts.I have Dutch roots,and looking on the computors,some of my handed down recipes,are almost word for word to dutch cooking,and none of the older family,has never had a computor.They never had recipes,just cooked,since the 1800′s.And,don’t change your cooking,I love the recipes and site!! So simple, yet so delicious! And hey, you can still see it as nutritious: it’s got calcium, protein, and vegetables! I like to refer to Laurent as “my partner,” instead of “my boyfriend,” just to emphasise that it’s a stable relationship (even though we haven’t been together nearly as long as you and Tom). And I when I mention his parents, I refer to them as “my in-laws”, because “my boyfriend’s parents” is just too long! [Reply]

I think the American “English” would refer to this dish as a frittata. What is great about this dish is that eggs are your foundation and whatever leftovers you might have can be added to this wonderful egg dish. Simone, I’m sorry to hear that you’re having family health problems. It’s hard to deal with, especially when the telecom guys put their two cents worth in! (don’t get me started…) I love it that you still eat good food when you’re this stressed–you don’t fall back on PB&J. This recipe looks wonderful. It’s my favorite kind of food: use what’s there, what’s fresh, and keep it simple and quick. What’s better than that? I think Oeuf cocotte is like a poached egg, but in a container instead of ‘naked’ in the water. [Reply]

I can just imagine all those tomatoes bursting! Do you think it was worth the effort to harass and beat those delicate little tomatoes? If so let me know, I’ll give mine a good thrashing! It was quick, so in that sense it’s easier then grilling them, but I like them slow roasted in the oven as to me that brings out the flavours much better. So, if you’re looking for a quick taste enhancer molest the poor little tomatoes, if not; just do a little grilling instead! [Reply]

Haha, tomatoes can be devilish indeed! As you say, they don’t like to be pinched! This looks so good… I’m craving pasta dishes these days, but I can’t have dairy for a while (minor health issue) and, as you say, no pasta dish is complete without at least a little cheese. So I’d rather wait until my treatment is over and then celebrate with a spectacular plate of all-dressed pasta! In the meantime, bon appétit to you! [Reply]

I don’t like tomato, but that looks really good! I wonder if doing it that way would make a difference for me. I would use olive oil I think, over butter. Smoked chicken sounds lovely too! And THIS… looks amazing. Not only are the photos fabulous, but I can just taste all of those fresh flavors. One of my favorite things to do in the summer months is to roast little cherry tomatoes… pan cooking them is a nice, simple (and cooler) method. [Reply]
