Happy Halloween!
Delicious and bright orange; Halloween cupcakes
Halloween is not something we really celebrate here in the Netherlands. Well we do a little but there will be no kids knocking on our doors dressed up like ghosts or other scary creatures. Which is a shame really as I would love to see that! A few weeks later on November 11th St. Maarten (st. Martin or whatever you call it) is celebrated and we do have kids coming around singing a song and carrying a lantern that is either handmade or prebought.
How much more fun would it have been if they would come and pass by our house dressed up as skeletons or bats or witches?? St. Maarten to me is just plain boring and I would suggest to all Dutch people out there, we swap that one for a proper Halloween party. And I don’t mean all the commercial junk you can buy in the stores but I’m talking about kids dressing up! Letting their imagination run wild! Mums making gorgeous mummy costumes or home made witches brooms! Now ofcourse, easy for me to say as we have no kids, and I can sort of see that not all mums and dads are keen for the extra work, but still… have a think about it and see if we can introduce a new custom here.
Green cupcake with spooky mini pumpkin
It’s true that Halloween is becoming more of a thing here, and finding Halloween decorations and Halloween cupcakes and the like is not something rare, but to me, it’s still not what I would want Halloween to be…
So come on guys, let’s go crazy this year (but please let me know in advance so I can make sure I have enough candy in the house!)
No recipes today as these photos were taken for a customer, but we all know how to make a good cupcake and then decorate with bright orange buttercream and some Halloween colored sprinkles and you’re good to go!
Happy Halloween everyone!!

Gorgeous cupcakes…Simone
Halloween is not a big thing in Perth either. We do have few kids dressed up for ‘Trick or Treat’-ing… usually less than 10 kids would come knocking.

O 10 kids is not a lot! I would not know what to buy candy wise and end up having to eat it all myself! Which is usually what happens at St. Maarten too..

Halloween was never that popular here until a few years ago and now it is a very popular ‘american’ holiday. The kids love it but it is one I dislike greatly. There is too much greediness in the children racing around from house to house looking for sweets and money. I think, now that the kids are older, I am going to start taking mini vacations to places where they do not celebrate this holiday just so I do not have to deal with it! Bah humbug indeed :0)

O lol… Sorry Mona..
I guess not having kids doesn’t make me realize the nightmares too many sweets can bring on. I was just thinking Halloween would be cool with all the dressup that is going on. Candy, for me, is just something that belongs to it, but I guess for the kids that would be a bit different. Well I hope you survive this Halloween in one piece..

Beautiful pictures!!
I would not want to combine St. Martin with Halloween. My kids love to visit Germany and participate in the St. Martin traditions. Especially making their own lanterns. I think we all enjoy it more than Halloween. Halloween got, unfortunately, so commercialized. Oh, but don’t understand me wrong, they are still very ready to go out to collect lots of candy in their costumes tomorrow.
Happy Halloween from Colorado.

I agree that it all got a bit too commercial and I too love the handmade lanterns. What I don’t like so much about St. Martin is that there are too many kids out there that just go for the candy (I guess similar to Halloween) and they ruin it a bit for the little ones which are just sooo cute and serious! But to me if you’re 16 yrs old you should not be ringing doorbells and asking for candy I guess… Happy Halloween!

I guess we always want to have or do what is not common where we live or grew up ;o)

I myself am not too fond of Halloween kids ringing at my door and the kitties here rather glad Halloween trick and treating is not common here.
But I do love to decorate baked goods halloweeny if I have the time, this year unfortunately not! Love your cupcakes! Great pictures!

To be entirely honest I am not too fond of the kids coming by on St. Martin which I guess is the same on Halloween for you. There’s just too many of them! Gizmo is a bit deaf so she doesn’t really mind. Loved you halloweeny cat pics!
