Who let the dogs out!
In case you were wondering where I have been for the past couple of days….
I guess you can tell by the above photos… Last year I was called on a tuesday evening if it would be possible to come and shoot at a petstore the next day. The photographer that they had hired had cancelled a day before the event (the event being the 4th of October which is ‘animalday’ here in Holland) After scratching myself behind the ear I figured I could give it a try… and so I did.
Ofcourse I did not have the time to think about anything as it was literally the day before, but they did ask me to come again for next year and I said yes. Without knowing if it would be worth it. It’s basically not paid, plus each customer receives one free print. So if no one buys anything except that free print I lose money… Last year was not too good in terms of profit, but since I had a little more time this year I did change the prices somewhat. Still the one free print, but the rest of the prints are slightly more expensive. Still good value I think, since I am for free!
I had asked my sister to help me for the day as it was very hard to do it all on my own the first day, plus it was great to have some company and someone to operate the various peeping toys and ratling thingies to keep the dogs occupied and interesting.
The petstore had a large outside tent this year where I would be located. Ofcourse we had NOT anticipated that it would be storming the entire day, so we had to make sure everything did not fall apart….! But it was noisy for the dogs (and the one cat..) but all in all I think I could at least one good shot of most of the dogs.
Why do people not bring there other animals? Don’t kids have hamsters, rabbits, mouses or guinea pigs? I got three cats, 2 cavia’s and about 80 dogs! It was fun though and I hope the results are a little bit better for this year so I can do this again next year..
But now you know where I have been hanging out… Oooo and exciting news; I am finally getting a Kitchenaid tomorrow!! Whoohoo!!

you did a fantastic job! The dogs & the cat looks so well behaved & poised. I think I would jittery finding myself among 80 dogs!

I’m not much of a pet person but I’m seriously excited for your kitchenaid! I spent last weekend making pasta with/coveting my friend’s, and I think it’s only a matter of time before I take the plunge…

Loved the dog and cat photos! I can see why they asked you do it again next year. Thanks for sharing,

Oh my goodness, so adorable! It can be so difficult to photograph animals- They’re more finicky than people sometimes.
Amazing work here, I can’t even imagine getting such clear and vibrant shots.

How fun. I love dogs, have two of them. A kitchen aid. That is my dream!I borrow my neighbor’s all the time. I’m starting to think maybe I should buy some attachments for it. She doesn’t use it that much. In fact, I have it right now.
