Chocolaty drama’s…:)
Today seemed to be one of those days that everything goes wrong…. We went away early morning for some last minute christmas presents. We really thought we had everything covered on time, only to realise yesterday evening that we had forgotten the presents for my in-law’s… Oops… At least we found out before the actual christmas day!!
Anyway, today we would be making some of the desserts upfront and Tom was going to make truffels with white and dark chocolate and I would be making muffins and chocolate mousse.
While Tom started melting the chocolate it very quickly went wrong as the chocolate started to split as soon as the butter was added (after it was melted…) So while he went upstairs to check if there was a good way to solve it (to find out that the cacao content had been too high) I was finishing the muffins. I had already put them in the form, when …BLING!!… it hit me; I had forgotten to put in the sugar!!! Not very good, but it was already in the cakemoulds… So I had to throw everything back in the bowl, add the sugar, stirr it again and put it in the moulds again…
Now with muffins you do not want to stir them too much or they will not become very tasty, but it was either that or start all over again. In the meantime Tom had figured out we needed different chocolate so he went to the supermarket again to get different chocolate. O I have forgetten to tell you that I for some reason did not have enough sour cream for the muffins, so I had gone to the supermarket also before that.
Anyway, I baked the muffins and miraculously they do taste fine. I made one extra to make sure we could taste them as I don’t want to serve dodgy muffins ofcourse. They have raspberries in them. Very tasty! (thankfully)
The next batch of chocolate for the truffels – thankfully – did go fine… Phew…!
So next was the chocolate mousse; which was with the same chocolate as the original truffels… and yes, you guessed it correctly. The same thing happened.
Now initially we were going to make the chocolate mousse tomorrow, but with all the chocolate things going wrong I felt safer to do it while the stores where still open. Good call as it turned out.
I was hoping it would not split as it was a different recipe with different ingredients but that did not help…. So… Tom went again to the supermarket to get more chocolate and eggs as well. Again, the 2nd batch went fine!
Then I decided to take some photos before the light was entirely gone, but first turned up the iso to shoot a few handheld and then forgot to put the iso back down. So I have now shot photos with my tripod on iso 1000. Took about silly…:) That is the thing I always tell my workshoppers NOT to do… and here I am making the same mistake! Haha… goes to show that you always have to check your settings! (and your ingredients for that matter!!)
So if the photos look a little grainy… you know why!!
I’ll try and see if I can take some shots of the chocolate mousse tomorrow. Not sure if we have time!
I’m really looking forward to tomorrow!! Everyone have a fantastic christmas!
